You will be part of the North West & Central Region (NW&C) which consist of three routes - North West, Central and West Coast South - and a regional team supporting Regional Major Programmes & Professional services.
Brief Description
This vacancy is within the Frameworks and Supply Chain Risk team within NW&C region. We are responsible for putting in place value for money frameworks/similar that will be used within the region, or on occasion for use across Network Rail. The region and the business are focused on ensuring solid and robust solutions that offer ongoing value for money. We look to utilise other public sector organisations opportunities and we look to collaborate across our business and externally. An example of a large value framework would be the new Fencing & Vegetation framework to be put in place across 4 regions at an estimated value of £1.2bn. Conversely we are working on smaller value frameworks that are strategically critical to the business, in ensuring solutions give consideration to safety, technical competence, ecological and environmental impacts through frameworks such as demolition & asbestos, ecology, environmental services, security services and more.
The person interested in this role will be looking to start a career in the commercial and procurement world, having an understanding of Business & Finance, and an interest in commercial contracting and procurement. The individual will be working in a demanding team, and will be provided with solid line management support, team support, on the job training and development opportunities.
The successful candidate can be based from Birmingham, Manchester or Milton Keynes .
About the role (External)
1. Undertake full range of procurement activities including obtaining supplier prices, tendering negotiation and purchase order placement.
2. Assist in the procurement of higher value and more complex commodities.
3. Provision of dedicated support to senior staff in commodity area
4. Target specific goods, services and/or suppliers to identify how tangible improvements may be made in the procurement of these goods and services.
5. Manage the team database information, keeping it accurate and up to date.
6. Taking notes at meetings and using the range of email, Word, Excel and PowerPoint day to day to prepare packs and information briefings as an example.
7. Carry out analysis, support the team with tender opportunities and preparation of tender packs. Support working with our clients,
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:
• Commercial experience and aptitude.
• Understanding of procurement processes.
We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:
• Knowledge of procurement and competition legislation, procurement procedures, processes, systems and controls.
• Membership or training for qualifications in relevant professional institution.
